Former Bengal Angela Munger Named Top Women's Basketball Assistant

Angela Munger returns to Idaho State.

June 13, 2008

Pocatello, ID --- Seton Sobolewski dipped into the Bengal archives to pick his top assistant coach, as he has named Angela Munger to the top assistant slot on his staff. She joins Jordan Green on the staff of assistants, leaving one assistant coaching slot left to fill. Munger will officially start her duties on Monday, June 23.

One of the most popular players in Bengal history, Munger played from 1996-2000 under former coach Ardie McInelly, earning First Team All-Big Sky honors as a senior and co-team MVP honors at the 2000 Bennion Awards Banquet. She also was a four-year Big Sky All-Academic pick, and she second in career steals and fifth in career assists.

She also twice earned the team's Most Inspirational Award, in 1997 and 1999, not surprising as Munger was known for her hustle on the court, consistently diving for loose balls and having a motor that basically never stopped.

With Idaho State, she will serve as the top assistant for new coach Seton Sobolewski, and she will serve as ISU's recruiting coordinator, along with working with the team's guards. She will also handle scouting, some scheduling, as well as working on motion offense and certain defensive sets.

"We are very excited to have someone with Angela's experience and enthusiasm join our program. Being a former Bengal, she has familiarity with ISU and Pocatello which will be valuable," said Sobolewski. "Angela is someone I've known for several years. She is a great coach, good recruiter, and a loyal friend. She will be an asset to our program"

She comes to Sobolewski's staff after serving as an assistant coach at Air Force for the past seven years under McInelly, and her responsibilities there included scheduling, recruiting, scouting, film breakdown, and equipment. On the floor, she worked primarily with the Academy's guards, as well as both offensive and defensive strategies. She got her coaching start at Idaho State as a graduate assistant for the 2000-01 season, a season which culminated in a perfect 16-0 conference record, a 21-game winning streak, and ISU's first ever conference regular season and tournament titles, and ISU's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Hawthorne, Nevada, Angela earned a B.S. in biology in 2000 from Idaho State, and then a Master's in Athletic Administration from Idaho State in 2002.
