Complete NCAA West Regional Friday Results
Northridge, CA--Three Bengals competed in the first day of competitions at the NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championship Friday afternoon. Kasie Scott competed in the pole vault, Erin Bell in the long jump and Sergio Jones in the 100 and 200-meter dash preliminaries. Freshman Jones achieved two top-ten performances in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He ran an excellent 10.68 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries with a 2.7 wind speed. His run earned him a 12th place finish but was not enough to advance him to the finals. Jones also ran well in the 200-meter preliminaries where he ran a time of 21.77 for a 14th place finish. The pole vault event began early in the afternoon. Junior Scott had a rough day and was unable to plant and did not reach a height. Senior Bell, who took first place in the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship, jumped a distance of 18-09.00 for a 12th place finish in the long jump. Leading the NCAA West Regionals is Arizona State for the men's and women's team. The men hold first with 22 points while the women have 50 points, a 26.5 point lead over UCLA. Five Bengals will compete during four different events on Saturday at the Matador Track and Field Complex on Saturday, the final day of competition. The first event for the Bengals begins at noon with the javelin throw in which Mandi Janowitz and Cassie Merkley will be competing. |
