May 8, 2008
Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University Acting Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey has announced that Chad Teichert, one of the top volleyball clinicians in the nation and one of the nation's winningest high school coaches, has been tabbed as the ninth head volleyball coach in ISU history, replacing Mike Welch, who held the post from 2000-2007. Teichert brings to Idaho State over 25 years of coaching experience, both on the high school and club level, and he is one of the nation's top volleyball clinicians, organizing and conducting over 450 camps and clinics for players and teams at all levels, including high school, club, and collegiate level. He was perhaps the most successful high school coach in Wyoming history, leading three separate schools for a cumulative record of 397-83 (.827), winning 10 state titles in 16 years, including a run of eight straight titles. Also including among his high school exploits was a 142-match winning streak in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. Teichert in his time sent several athletes to Division I programs around the country. He also was an assistant coach with the National Junior Olympic Team, coaching several eventual college All-Americans and Olympians. His teams at Cokeville (1983-93) Mountain View (1994-98) and Green River (1998-2000) combined to win 43 of the 65 tournaments they entered as well, a .661 tournament championship percentage. "Coaching is a hard, demanding, challenging, rewarding, magical ... I could go on ... profession," said Teichert. "I have been fortunate to work with good people and many good athletes. We expected good things to happen, and they did. I appreciate being at Idaho State, and once again, I expect good things to happen!" The hire is the first for Acting Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey, and it has already received ringing endorsements from around the country, and other Division I volleyball programs, calling the hire both smart and remarkable.
"Idaho State Athletics is very excited to have Chad join our team," said Tingey. "Chad comes to us with a vast knowledge of volleyball and has a lot of great experience as a teacher and a clinician and we are confident that he will move the ISU volleyball program to the top of the Big Sky Conference." Teichert, who left the coaching profession in 2000 to care for his wife Kristine during an illness, has spent the past seven years as one of the foremost clinicians and teachers of the game. He developed and organized the highly successful "State Champs" Coaching Clinics, with coaches from Alaska to California to New York attending. He also was a member for a time with the Mikasa National Advisory Board, and he worked with both Mizuno and Blocksport in securing sponsorships for the Wyoming All-Star match. He also has spent time coaching various club volleyball programs for both the AAU and USA club programs. "Chad has an immeasurable understanding of the game, and great skill in teaching and coaching, Chad will be a excellent asset for the department," added Tingey. Teichert is a former student-athlete himself, having wrestled while at Brigham Young, where he graduated with a degree in physical education in 1982, with minors in history and English. Teichert qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 150-pound weight class in 1980. He has four children; Kami 22, Rondo 19, Tanner 15, Caleb 12. His wife Kristine passed away in 2000. Chad will officially start his duties on June 1. What They Are Saying About Chad Teichert...

His expertise coaching the game and training players is renowned even among USA Olympic coaches, and is exactly what Idaho State University Volleyball needs right now. I believe he is going to be one of our most successful volleyball coaches."
